JOIN SAFE-DRIVING CONVERSATION AT “NOT ONE MORE” FORUM: WED., APR. 26

When children approach driving age, the ever-present safety concerns of parents and educators soar to new heights.

To promote safe driving habits and facilitate parent-student conversations about this all-important subject, we urge all our Juniors and their parents to join us on Tuesday, April 26, at 6:30, for our annual “Not one more” Forum in the school’s auditorium. Topics of discussion include the dangers of drinking-and-driving and distracted driving.

Registration for Juniors begins at 6:30, and the event will commence once all have been registered. Juniors who attend with a parent/guardian will earn the privilege to apply for parking privileges in their senior year.

“Not one more” is hosted in conjunction with Minisink Kiwanis and is open to all.

A Letter from the District Attorney

In connection with this effort, and as we enter a season of recognitions and celebrations for our high school students, we are sharing a recent letter from Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler. DA Hoovler urges parents to keep their students safe and offers reminders about two important laws involving alcohol and drug use by minors.

The Social Host Law makes it illegal for any host 18-years or older to serve alcohol to minors, or to allow underage drinking on private or public premises under the host’s control. It is the responsibility of parents and any adult hosts to provide adequate supervision and monitor minors at any party.

The Good Samaritan Law incentivizes youth to seek immediate medical attention for anyone experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency related to alcohol or drug use. The law provides immunity from drug and alcohol possession offenses for those who report a medical emergency.
