Jaden Smernaos, a Minisink Valley seventh grader, just got a bunch of new clothes and they have nothing to do with the new school year or the change of seasons. The youngest member of the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign, Jaden’s new wardrobe comes in many shades of pink.

The ACS’s campaign for breast cancer awareness involves wearing pink for all 31 days of October and helping to raise funds for breast cancer research. Jaden created his own campaign page and between networking, a bake sale, a pizza eating contest and family night at Slate Hill’s Cugino’s, he’s already raised over $4,000—with more than half of October to go.

And that’s not all. With the help of MVMS administrators, Jaden has challenged the entire school to wear pink for one day and show support for his cause. Why not the entire school district?

On Friday, Oct. 20, join MVMS “Pinked Out” Day by wearing something pink to celebrate breast cancer survivors and remind all women of the importance of breast cancer screenings.
