SOCIAL HOST LAW: IMPORTANT REMINDER TO PARENTS FROM DISTRICT ATTORNEY HOOVLER

As we enter a season of recognitions and celebrations for our high school students, we are sharing a recent letter from Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler. DA Hoovler urges parents to keep their students safe and offers reminders about two important laws involving alcohol and drug use by minors.

Orange County's Social Host Law makes it illegal for any host 18-years or older to serve alcohol to minors, or to allow underage drinking on private or public premises under the host’s control. It is the responsibility of parents and any adult hosts to provide adequate supervision and monitor minors at any party.

New York's Good Samaritan Law encourages youth to seek immediate medical attention for anyone experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency related to alcohol or drug use. The law provides immunity from drug and alcohol possession offenses for those who report a medical emergency.

This information is intended to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students and their families as they celebrate the achievements they earned and the milestones they reached. Read DA Hoovler’s letter to our schools.
