BLACK HISTORY MONTH COMMEMORATIVE DISPLAYS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Celebrated annually in February, Black History Month celebrates the achievements by African Americans and their central role in U.S. history and culture.

As the month comes to an end, Minisink Valley Middle School would like to share their commemorative displays on view throughout the month of February. They were put together by social studies teachers, music teachers, and librarians.

Some of the biographies and themes on display were the subject of reading and instruction in social studies, and were followed by book reports and class presentations.

President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
