MVES STUDENTS LEARN NEW SKILLS AND SHOW KINDNESS WITH "KIDS HEART CHALLENGE"

Minisink Valley Elementary students put their heart and muscle into this year’s Kids Heart Challenge, at school and at home, the week of April 30-May 4.

The Kids Heart Challenge replaces Jump Rope for the Heart but the focus is the same: teaching students about the workings of the heart, the importance of eating healthy and exercising for good heart health, and making a difference in the lives of kids with special hearts by raising funds for the American Heart Association (AHA).

The program involves learning new physical skills, watching related videos, collecting Heart Hero characters, and more.

For the 20th consecutive year, with the help of students and their families, faculty and staff, the school raised close to $10,000 for research and treatment of heart disease, bringing their 20-year total to $167,000.

A percentage of the school’s donations is returned to the students in the form of vouchers to purchase supplies and equipment for physical education classes.
