Voters approve $120,342,342 school budget for the 2024-25 school year

Minisink Valley School District voters approved the proposed $120,324,342 school budget for the 2024-25 school year in a 1,500-to-1,074 vote.

The results showed 58.28% of voters approved the budget.

The approved budget maintains all current student programs and services in addition to reinstating summer school for High School/Middle School students and the 5 p.m. bus run. The approved budget also allows the district to purchase 10 large, 72-passenger buses, three wheelchair, 42-passenger buses and two, 30-passenger buses.

The approved budget has a 2.31% tax levy increase, below the 2.77% maximum tax levy allowed.  This increase in the tax levy – total amount of money to be raised through property taxes – is within the New York State tax cap requirement and needed a simple majority to be approved.

The Audit Committee and Financial Statements

School district finances are subject to internal and external auditing, which promote both accountability and transparency. The Minisink Valley Central School District Audit Committee, which is made up of Board members and community members, is charged with providing independent advice, assistance, and recommendations to the board in the oversight of the internal and external audit functions.

Each year, in accordance with New York State regulations, an independent auditor conducts a review of the district’s financial statements. After the audit is completed, it is reviewed by the Audit Committee and accepted by the Board. This typically takes place in the fall.
