A committee representing USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum has ranked Minisink Valley’s varsity girls wrestling team in the Top 50 of all girls varsity wrestling programs in the nation.
The team is the only New York State team to be ranked in the Top 50.
The team, led by Varsity Coach Dan Gallo, ranked 45th in the country for the 2023-24 season. This ranking includes public and private schools at the high school level from all states, including states with official girls state championship events as well as those with unofficial girls state championships, according to USA Wrestling.
“The Minisink Valley girls wrestling team being nationally ranked is a prestigious honor,” Coach Gallo said. “Everyone involved in the program has every right to be proud. Thank you to my assistant coaches Joey Yanis and Jamie Gallo, as well as the parents and families of our wrestlers. One additional thank you to our administration, for making this year’s team a reality. Our mission remains the same, to be the best team in New York and to continue climbing the national rankings. ”
USA Wrestling also noted the Selection Committee chose to expand the number of ranked teams to 50 for the final ranking, up from the initial Top 40 ranking released in February. The committee also expanded the number of Honorable Mention teams to 50, providing national recognition to 100 high school programs this year.
“We are extremely proud of our girls wrestling program, led by Head Coach Dan Gallo,” added Athletic Director Tim Bult. “Our first year team hit the ground running this year as we celebrated many exciting victories, including a Section IX championship and national ranking. We look forward to building from this solid foundation in the years to come.”
