The High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club again showed its members real-life applications of what’s discussed in the classroom when 60 members attended the recent “Business of Sports Night” hosted by the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Students heard important business-centric information from New Jersey Devils’ corporate staff: Jessica Narciso, Corporate Partnerships Activation manager; Joe Scribani, Devils Marketing manager; Matt Julian, Group Events senior manager; and Matt Kraemer, Group Events account executive.
Each panelist spoke about their journey into the sports business, including sharing lessons they learned along the way. They offered tips for high school and college students and also discussed what their day-to-day responsibilities were. Students asked detailed questions following panelist’s comments.
The night was capped off with students attending a game and watching a 4-1 Devils victory over the St. Louis Blues.
“This is the third time our school has been able to attend this event and it is a wonderful learning experience,” said FBLA advisor Seth Johnson. “To be able to interact with people that work in professional sports is a fantastic opportunity. And, we’re showing students that what we talk about in the classroom happens in the business world.”
