Firefighters representing local fire companies within the Minisink Valley School district visited the Elementary School and Otisville Elementary this week to mark Fire Prevention Week.’
Thank you to our local fire companies for visiting the schools and providing valuable information to our youngest students!
This year’s theme is: “Cooking safety starts with you! Pay attention to fire prevention.” The goal is to educate everyone about simple, but important, actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.

Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of Oct. 9 in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on Oct. 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage, killing over 250 people, leaving 100,000 homeless, destroying more than 17,400 structures, and burning more than 2,000 acres of land.
