Members of the High School’s National Honor Society honored area veterans with a special pasta dinner to mark Veterans Day on Nov. 8.
“It was a beautiful dinner filled with smiles and great conversations,” said NHS advisor Dolores Lombardo. “One of our veterans said to me: ‘I love coming to this annual dinner and seeing the bright shining faces of the students. With all of the things happening in the world today, it gives us hope for the future.'”
Additionally, members of the High School Band, organized by Shannon Cahill, volunteered to play two hours of music from the 1940s, 1950s as well as dance tunes. The band also played the songs representing four branches of the military.
Sophia Solimando and Shannon Cahill played Taps, with Mia Twyman, Sean Crowe, and Amelia Bohr singing the National Anthem.
“Students cooked for two days and baked desserts,” added Mrs. Lombardo. “They also served, cleaned up afterward and made handmade thank you cards that were at each each place setting. They were absolutely the perfect hosts.”
Mrs. Lombardo also noted the highlight and most enjoyed aspect of the evening was the time that the students spent with the veterans.
Thank you to members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, who handled the presentation of colors.
