The Minisink Valley Elementary School and Intermediate School PTOs have raised over $21,000 at its first “MV Color Fun Run,” held Oct. 22 at the Slate Hill campus.
“It was a great day with so many smiling, colorful faces,” said IS PTO co-chair Kristen Morello. “We surpassed our fundraising goal because of all of the donations brought in by the ES and IS students. Thank you to everyone for their participation and support. We are very grateful.”
Color runners are doused from head to toe in different colored powders as they run through the established course. Color run participants wore white clothing that turned radiant shades of different colors as they were doused from head to toe in colored powder (FDA approved coloring and cornstarch) by event volunteers throwing colored powders from cups at them as they passed by. Many often wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from the safe powder.
Color runs, which often take place for fundraising purposes, are inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi, celebrated as the Festival of Colors, Love, and Spring.
“The MVES and MVIS PTO would like to thank Coach Uhelsky for designing the course for the run and for all of her help along the way,” added Mrs. Morello. “We would also like to thank our sponsors, the school administrators, teachers, students and community for all of their support. This could not have been done without you. With your support, we are able to provide necessary supplies, resources and activities for our children throughout the school year.”
