A special wooden gift, created by two High School “Manufacturing Systems” students, was presented to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets (WCPO) in Central Valley on April 15 as a thank you to officials for the continued use of WCPO portable construction lights at home football games.
Juniors Kevin Crowe-Bailey and Liam Ordway designed the 36-inch diameter wood sign which prominently features WCPO’s logo along with verbiage that says “welcome to” in six languages.
WCPO General Manager David Mistretta was amazed to see the final product.
“This is so above and beyond what we could have ever imagined,” he said at the gathering. “As general manager, we love to give back to the community. But being a part of this, to seeing and hearing how this was created in the classroom, to receiving this, these are 100-fold more important to us than a couple of light towers. We plan to display this in our Marketplace Eatery, and we look forward to thousands and thousands of people seeing it, admiring it, and feeling welcome to Woodbury Common.”
Liam, Technology Teacher Christopher Tuthill, Mr. Mistretta and Superintendent Monahan signed the back of the sign to commemorate the moment.
The larger sign follows the presentation of a smaller sign last fall. At that time, Mr. Monahan mentioned the district would like to make a larger sign for WCPO to install wherever it wished. Mr. Mistretta, who noted the smaller sign would be a wonderful addition to WCPO offices, welcomed the idea.
“We instill in in our students that it’s important to recognize, thank and give back to anyone who looks to support their academic or co-curricular experiences,” Mr. Monahan added. “Kevin and Liam’s work represent our high school community thanking Woodbury Common for enhancing their evening football game experience. These lights also very much appreciated by our nearby merchants because these lights make it so much easier and safer for our students and community football fans to get to them to buy food and snacks.”
