Minisink Valley school community:
If you're paying your 2024-25 tax bill directly and not through your mortgage provider, we're reminding you of the following important information, which is also noted on your tax bill:
To remit your taxes by mail:
Minisink Valley Central School District
P.O. Box 5047
White Plains, NY 10602
The district does not accept in-person payments at the Business Office.
You can now pay online using the following payment methods:
Using your Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card (2.45% convenience fee applies)
By Visa debit card ($3.95 flat fee)
By electronic check ($1.75 minimum fee)
Important note: All convenience fees are collected and charged by the online payment provider, not Minisink Valley Central School District.
Online banking bill pay is not recommended and can’t be guaranteed as a timely payment method. This is because:
Most banks discourage the use of online banking for tax payments (per each bank’s online service agreement), as banks cannot guarantee your payment will be delivered by the due date.
Utilizing online bill pay to pay your taxes is very risky and may result in property owner(s) owing additional penalties as well as cases where the online bill pay payment was not received. Listed below are various reasons why online bill pay should not be used to pay your taxes:
There is no USPS postmark on the online bill pay envelope: All online bill payments arrive with an envelope that does not include a USPS postmark. The USPS postmark is utilized by the district as the date of receipt of the payment (postage meter labels are not applicable). If there is no USPS postmark on an envelope, the date in which the envelope is received by the district will be used. If mail is lost or delayed by the Post Office, you will be held responsible for any penalty that is due at the time of receipt.
Possible processing delays:Your check may not be mailed the same day that the money is taken out of your bank account. Your bank moves the money to a holding account when you request the check and then transfers money to a third party check processing company. Once a certain number of payments to a particular payee are received or ‘x’ numbers of days pass, the third party check processing company actually mails a physical check. If you make the payment close to the deadline, this delay in processing can result in owing a penalty for lateness.
You won’t know there is a problem: Your balance will go down when your bank moves the money from your account to their holding account. If the envelope gets lost in the mail and is not received, you will have no way of knowing the district did not receive your payment until the money is deposited back into your account months later. In the past, this has resulted in additional penalties or in the taxes being reported unpaid to Orange County Department of Finance.
Important payment dates and notes
Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, 2024: Tax payments postmarked by Sept. 30 will be accepted without penalty.
Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2024: All tax payments postmarked between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31 must include the 2% interest penalty in order to be accepted as paid in full. Please refer to your tax bill for the applicable amount due.
After Oct. 31, 2024: No tax payments will be accepted by the district.
School tax bills will be mailed by the district to taxpayers by Sept. 2, 2024.
Unpaid school taxes will be re-levied (included) with the 2025 town and county property taxes and will include additional penalties, as required by law.
