Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Wrestling team, who won the 2025 NYSPHSAA Division I Dual Meet Championship this evening, Feb. 1!
The team earned its state championship title after its huge victory over Section VIII Farmingdale in the 51-13 match at the SRC Arena in Syracuse.
"We wrestled great today and it is because this group wrestles for each other," said Varsity Coach Kevin Gallagher. "This is a really close team and when we get on a roll it is pretty cool to see!"
The team had decisive wins all day, first beating Niagara Wheatfield in Round 1 in a 57-7 final match.. After a Bye Round, the team had another significant win over Briarcliff-Byram Hills-Valhalla-Westlake in Round 3 in a 54-15 match.
In the semi-finals, the team had another big win over Webster-Shroeder in a 56-12 match.
"Our team and coaching staff are the most dedicated and hardest workers, all year long," said Athletic Director Tim Bult. "They receive the greatest support from our Mat Maid team, amazing parents, community and school district. We traveled to Syracuse and outscored the highest ranked opponents in the state 218-47 in four matches. Tonight we showed why Minisink Valley wrestling truly is Number 1."
Today marks Minisink Valley's third state duals championship in program history (previous titles in 2020 and 2022) as the team improved to 3-3 in finales and raised its overall record at this event to an extraordinary 22-4 since inception in 2018.
