The High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club again showed its members real-life applications of what’s discussed in the classroom when 59 members and High School Sports Marketing students attended the recent “Sports in Business Night” hosted by the New Jersey Devils Hockey Club at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Students heard important business-centric information from New Jersey Devils sales team members Trevor Dumay, Jake Schreiman and Karina Bua. They spoke about their experience working in sales and the techniques used to sell tickets to stimulate group sales. The trio also spoke about their journeys to their current positions and offered advice to the students if they want to get a jump start on their careers.

Students asked detailed questions following the panelists’ comments.

Following the seminar, students attended the Devils vs. Winnipeg Jets game.

“A trip like this allows the students direct access to professionals who work in the sports industry,” said FBLA advisor and business teacher Seth Johnson. “Their first-hand account and expertise allows students a glimpse into a world that they might otherwise not have access to. And, students see there’s a definite connection to what they learn in the classroom and what takes place in the business world. It was a fun and educational experience for everyone.”
