Ten Varsity wrestlers have advanced to the NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Championship following their successes at the Feb. 14 and 15 Section IX Championship, held at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
Winning individual Section IX championships in their weight classes were:
152-pound weight class
Anthony Tresch
160-pound weight class
Wyatt Boice
170-pound weight class
PJ Duke
190-pound weight class
Zach Filip
285-pound weight class
Kevin Crowe-Bailey
Also earning the opportunity to compete in the NYSPHSAA Championship with strong placings on the podium were: Colin Matone (124-pound weight class), Nate Racz, (138-pound weight class); Joe Uhrig (145-pound weight class), Max Wickrath (152-pound weight class) and Jayden Pressley (190-pound weight class).
Minisink Valley also placed first for the total number of points earned by a team: 306.5 points, followed by Newburgh with 193 points and Middletown with 150 points.
“Their performances were beyond impressive and again demonstrate why Minisink Valley wrestling is a powerhouse in Section IX and beyond,” said Athletic Director Tim Bult. “Section IX is sending a very tough team to states and we know our wrestlers will make amazing contributions to this group of Section IX athletes who will be competing for individual titles.”
The state championship tournament will be held Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 at the MVP Arena in Albany.
