The Town of Minisink Heritage Commission’s June 1 Heritage Day will spotlight the artifacts and memorabilia tied to the Minisink Valley School District and “the pre-Minisink Valley” school years and organizers are inviting the school community to contribute to this effort.

“We have lots of folks who are loaning us memorabilia, and our goal is to get people together and have a good time,” said Teresa Gurdineer, event chair.

Already, Ms. Gurdineer said, there’s many pieces of memorabilia from the 1940s to 1950s timeframe representing the old Unionville School and Middletown School District, where students attended before the Minisink Valley School District was formed. There’s also a good amount of memorabilia representing the 1960s to 1970s and 1980s to 1900s timeframe, but she’s hopeful to have interested people loan or donate items representing the 2000s to present day.

Current items to be exhibited include: Yearbooks, diplomas, class rings, graduation gowns, band and sports uniforms and sports jackets.

“It’s our intent to brand this alumni event every June as want folks to come out and visit, chat and smile when looking through the many photos and memorabilia,” Ms. Gurdineer added.

A Fourth-Grade Poster Contest with a transportation theme will take place which will be judged by Town of Minisink Highway Department members. There will also be local music and food for purchase.
